Vignelli Insight is an ongoing project lead by a diverse team of creatives. Team members are developing an interactive website to be used on desktop, mobile, and tablet for a high-profile client, the Vignelli Center for Design Studies.
This project was initiated to gain awareness and increase the amount of visitors to the Vignelli: Design exhibit within the Vignelli Center for Design Studies at the Rochester Institute of Technology. This exhibit is the final exhibition designed and installed by Lella and Massimo Vignelli themselves and is a critical fixture in the design world. The continuation of both local and international visitors, as well as preservation, is essential to the proliferation of the ideas set forth by the Vignellis.
The project combined the use of AR technology with printed pieces within the exhibition. Users were given an iPad and small postcard with clues to "trigger" images that can be found throughout the exhibition. Using the AR application, once these trigger images were found and captured, a small message would appear giving more information and insight on that particular piece. This pop up would also link to the corresponding Vignelli Insight website so users had access to even more information about the exhibit.
This initial interface was user-tested at a large community event, Imagine RIT, in May of 2017 and was met with raving reviews from users of all ages and educational backgrounds.
